Life may bring you showers Though you hope for bliss In your summer hours Try to remember this To sing songs Music can sweeten A melancholy day Can send the storm away When you feel yourself Steeped in troubled times Dance a steady rhythm Sing a simple rhyme What pain conceals music reveals Oh, it can help to hear That which you feel With just a chime Sing on, Sing on And even as the sun shines bright And you’re feeling alright I still say make a way to play A melody each night Put your whole heart in it If for just a minute Sing On A simple song will keep you strong And life moves along And even as the sun shines bright And everything’s alright I still say play a melody each night Put your whole heart in it If for just a minute Sing On, Sing on Sing on a simple song will keep you strong And life moves along

"Pearl" I drifted away with you Deep into the ocean blue. Your tide came and swept me out It rocked and rolled me round Until our shop went sinking down. And now the memory of riding on the sea With your love giving me light Leaves me drifting out upon the waters Singing to that pearl moon up in the night. Oh you were my pearl A treasure of the sea. You opened my eyes to see a world inside Of beauty unknown to me. Oh how I lament all the time I wasted life with pride. A treasure lost to me, Pearl of the sea. Yes, you are a pearl A treasure of the sea. My eyes open wide to see a world outside Of magic brighter than dreams. How precious is life that in time We cast fears all aside. A treasure you shall be, Pearl of the sea. Treasure you are to me Pearl of the sea. * * *

The sky was blue And high above The moon was new And so was love This eager heart of mine was singing Lover where can you be You came at last Love had its day That day is past You've gone away This aching heart of mine is singing Lover come back to me When I remember every little thing You used to do I'm so lonely Every road I walked along I walked along with you No wonder I am lonely The sky is blue The night is cold The moon is new But love is old And while I'm waiting here This heart of mine is singing Lover come back to me When I remember every little thing You used to do I'm so lonely Every road I walked along I walked along with you No wonder I am lonely The sky is blue The night is cold The moon is new But love is old And while I'm waiting here This heart of mine is singing Lover come back to me When I remember every little thing You used to do I'm so lonely Every road I walked along I walked along with you No wonder I feel lonely The sky is blue The night is cold The moon is new But love is old And while I'm waiting here This heart of mine is singing Lover come back Lover come back Lover come back to me

about

Heavily influenced by Django Reinhart, Gaucho makes gypsy jazz that sounds as if it came right out of a 1930’s Parisian club.

On Pearl, Gaucho's fourth album, the San Francisco sextet sounds like it has unearthed a treasure trove of forgotten Jazz Age songs, but only two of the dozen deliriously swinging tunes are standards. The others are the result of an inspired songwriting collaboration between Gaucho's Dave Ricketts and New York vocalist Tamar Korn. The band's synthesis of New Orleans polyphony and Gypsy jazz is driven by accordionist Rob Reich, drum kit and Cheek-o-Phone maestro Pete Devine, reed expert Ralph Carney (Tom Waits, B52s), and former Turk Murphy sideman, cornet master Leon Oakley. In 2009 Gaucho was voted the Best jazz/blues band in SF Weekly's readers poll.

about

Gaucho San Francisco, California

Gaucho is a masterful Bay Area band that combines the influence of gypsy jazz of 1930’s Europe with the rhythmic drive and collective improvisation of New Orleans swing music, gutbucket blues and elements of ragtime. Their sound, a uniquely American concoction, blends instrumental acuity and lighthearted humor that keep their audience coming back for more. ... more
